Who We Are

Baraka Workforce Development (formerly Sparrow Furniture) is a ministry of Salem Alliance Church dedicated to equipping and walking alongside refugees and immigrants in Salem. Through practical job training, English education, and relational support, we aim to reflect God’s love in action. Our heart is to see our New Neighbors not only find meaningful work, but thrive—growing in confidence, contributing to the community, and experiencing a deep sense of belonging and dignity as they rebuild their lives.

What We Do

Baraka Workforce offers a pathway to employment and community through:

  • Vocational Training: Hands-on experience in custodial services, food service, and facilities support, equipping interns with practical workplace skills.
  • English Language Learning: ESL instruction focused on job readiness, conversational fluency, and life skills to help participants succeed on and off the job.
  • Workforce Coaching: Resume writing, interview preparation, and career guidance provided through mentorship and case management.
  • Community Engagement: Every other week, volunteers, interns, and their families gather around the table for potluck dinners where language is practiced, stories are shared, and friendships are formed. These evenings are a simple but powerful way we build community, celebrate culture, and create a space where everyone feels seen, welcomed, and at home.
